Diet health costs

THE progressive rise of the nation’s health costs have reached a point where they are out of control and little is being done about it, in a practical way.

Cancer, diabetes, arthritis and heart disease appear to be on the increase.

There are many causes but particularly our highly processed food with its excessive animal saturated fat, refined sugar, preservatives, chemical additives, salt and artificial colours and flavours is mainly responsible.

We fail to drink sufficient fresh water, in its place – tea, coffee and alcohol.

Let’s take one example. Saturated fat over time tends to choke our arteries and veins, restricting blood circulation, breathing becomes difficult and we end up needing a bypass operation.

Several thousand bypass operations are carried out in our hospitals annually costing tens of millions of dollars.

We have known for over 2000 years the dangers of saturated fat.

From the Bible comes the advice.

The Jews were told, “you must not eat the fat of animals” – Old Testament Book of Leviticus.

Despite our high levels of education and learning we take life for granted, often abusing our fragile life.
